Princess Diana's legendary "revenge dress" auctioned in New York for $300,000.
Initially, Diana planned to appear in an outfit from Valentino, but after the news of her husband’s infidelity, she chose an outfit with open shoulders.

Sotheby's auction house has announced the sale of Princess Diana's iconic black silk dress, known as the "revenge dress." Bidding will be held on December 9 in New York, and the price of the lot is estimated in the range of $ 150,000 to $ 300,000. This is reported by TASS.
Historical significance is attached not only to the design of the Greek fashion designer Christina Stambolian, but also the circumstances of his appearance in public. Princess Diana visited the Serpentine Gallery in London on June 29, 1994, the same evening that Prince Charles (now King Charles III) publicly admitted his adultery in a television interview.
The decision to wear this dress was made spontaneously. c, who for three years considered too audacious for royal protocol. Her former stylist, Anna Harvey, explained that the princess wanted to "look like a million dollars." The image was complemented by a pearl necklace, bright red manicure and lipstick, which went against the traditions of the royal family.
After this release, Diana never wore this outfit again. In 1997, she put it up for charity auction to help cancer patients and people with HIV/AIDS. Since then, the dress has remained with the current owners, whose names have not been disclosed.
