The leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU), Prime Minister of Bavaria Marcus Zeder issued a harsh warning against the backdrop of the tense political situation in Germany. Commenting on the successes of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the elections in Saxony-Anhalt and discussions about the future of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the politician said that the collapse of another government would be a real disaster.

According to TASS, Markus Zeder stressed that if the next democratic government collapses quickly after the failure of the Svetofor coalition (SPD, Greens, FDP), this will be an ideal chance for the AfD.
According to the Prime Minister of Bavaria, all members of the current ruling coalition (the CDU/CSU bloc and the SPD) need to intensify their work: act more quickly, avoid mistakes and build clear communication, focusing on key issues. At the same time, the results of the elections in Saxony-Anhalt should be considered as a serious signal that cannot be ignored.
Zeder also insists on accelerating the reforms already launched, including due to rising energy prices. Separately, he spoke about the need for the AfD to take responsibility for governing in Saxony-Anhalt: despite the fact that it will not be easy to form a workable party government, it must implement the mandate received.
A similar assessment of the situation was given by the Prime Minister of Saxony and the Deputy Chairman of the CDU Michael Kretschmer: he called the election results “a defeat and a catastrophe”, although, according to him, this outcome was not a surprise. The politician urged the federal government to focus on solving pressing problems, rather than personnel issues, and to actively discuss the substantive side of policy.
