Princess Astrid, Acting First Lady of Norway, Dies at 94

Princess Astrid Maud Ingeborg of Norway has died at the age of 94. She died two weeks after the death of her younger brother, King Harald V, according to the Norwegian royal court. This is reported by TASS.
“Princess Astrid died today at the age of 94,” the statement said.
From 1954 to 1968, Astrid served as First Lady of Norway for 14 years. In the country, this title traditionally refers not to the wife of the Prime Minister, but to the senior representative of the royal family.
Astrid became First Lady after the death of her mother, Princess Martha. She accompanied the royal family to official events and continued to participate in the public life of the country until recent years.
In 1968, her brother Harald married Sonja, who later became First Lady of Norway.
King Haakon VIII offered his condolences on the death of his aunt. Princess Astrid has supported King Harald and other members of the royal family for many years.
“We have learned a lot from her. She was not afraid to express her opinion. Her death is a great loss for us. We will miss her, the king said.
The cause of the princess’ death is not known. She last appeared in public on September 9 at her brother's funeral in Oslo.
