Ambulances aren't coming to everyone? Latvia is running out of fuel money
Latvia’s emergency medical service may not have enough fuel for the rest of the year. The government plans to allocate money from the reserve fund.

In Latvia, doctors may not be able to reach patients. Emergency medical services do not have enough money for fuel.
The budget for 2026 provides 2,237,366 euros for fuel. However, by August 21, the service had already spent 1,816,823 euros. At current spending rates, the remaining budget may not be enough to keep ambulances running until the end of the year.
All because of rising fuel prices. Compared to last year, diesel fuel became more expensive by 10%, and gasoline by 11%.
The authorities hope to solve the problem at the expense of the reserve fund. The initiative should allow brigades to continue their work without reducing the number of visits and reducing the availability of medical care. A final decision on the allocation of funds has yet to be made.
