As noted by Reuters, we are talking about two specific objects. The first is the settlement of Narsarsuaq, located in the southern part of the island. During the Cold War, Bluie West One operated there, which was closed by the United States in the late 1950s. The second facility is the military base Mesters Vig on the east coast of Greenland, which is currently used by the Danish military.
The official signing of the relevant documents will take place on September 22 in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The ceremony will be attended by US President Donald Trump.
Earlier, the American leader has already announced the achievement of agreements with Denmark on the transfer to Washington of control over the security of Greenland. According to the President, the United States intends to immediately begin increasing its military presence on the Arctic island.
