Modern technologies are actively changing the format of postal service. On how digitalization improves the quality of services in Belarus, what are the main issues.

Modern technologies are actively changing the format of postal service. First Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization Pavel Tkach told about how digitalization improves the quality of services in Belarus, what processes have already been transferred to electronic format and how reliably client personal data are protected on the air of the Economic Environment program on the Belarus 1 TV channel.

Despite the fact that mail is a traditional form of communication, digitalization affects it in the most direct way, said Pavel Tkach. He identified several key areas in which it is being implemented.
- In customer service, you will not surprise anyone with an electronic queue, and it is very convenient. All medium and large post offices have been working with this for a long time, Pavel Tkach said. Next, internal technological processes. An example is a sorting machine for mail. About a thousand letters are sorted automatically. The machine itself recognizes handwriting and distributes [letters]. It used to be a hundred people who put them in their cells.
The development of technologies has made it possible to launch services that made the service independent of the work schedules of physical departments. The guest of the program continued:
The Post Office is also a digital device that allows you not to adapt to the mode of operation of the post office, but at any convenient time to come and pick up the parcel from the cell. Today, the postal service operates about 40 post offices, and they demonstrate a very good load.
Pre-post processing of items has also been significantly simplified, Pavel Tkach noted:
- Now a person does not need to come to the post office and fill out all the envelopes by hand. He can enter all these addresses in his personal account on the Belposhta website, then come to the department and he will already be given ready-made stickers. He'll just stick them up and send them letters.
The changes also affected the delivery of mail to customers.
- Previously, you had to come and show an identity document. Now, if you are authorized in your personal account, you have already passed strict authentication, identification, and it is enough to show either a QR code or SMS to receive mail, Pavel Tkach said.
When asked about data security, he stressed that the postal service strictly complies with all legal regulations. The company’s activities are regulated by the Law “On Postal Communications”, the Cybersecurity Decree and the Law “On Personal Data Protection”.
- All this is strictly observed, must be checked and audited, concluded Pavel Tkach.
