Mature winter pumpkins of some species and varieties are useful warm aging after harvest: the peel strengthens, and small scratches dry. Immature pumpkin from this will not become fully ripe, and deep wounds will not heal.
The pumpkin is cut with a knife or secator, leaving a part of the peduncle, but not lifted for it. Cracked, badly bruised and frozen specimens are used first.
For varieties that are suitable for such a reception, the reference point is 7-10 days at 27-32 ° C with good ventilation. If there is no dry warm place at home, do not replace it with a damp room and do not keep pumpkin outside in the rain or when frost threatens.
After aging, many winter pumpkins are stored at 10–13 °C in a dry, ventilated place. For summer squash, this method is not suitable. Rotting fruits with regular inspection are removed from the general stock.
