Head of the Main Department of the State Automobile Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Viktor Rotchenkov spoke about the frequent causes of road accidents. Details he shared on the air of the TV channel ONT, writes sb.by.

Viktor Rotchenkov noted that the causes of road accidents are completely different. According to him, every year the number of cases when drivers get behind the wheel in a state of intoxication decreases. The number of accidents committed by lawless persons is also decreasing. The head of the GU GAI MIA stressed that today in many cases the cause of the accident is not one:
- Banal inattention, distraction of the driver, somewhere drowsiness, fatigue, which leads to sleep. In fact, when investigating an accident in which the driver fell asleep, it is difficult to tell what happened to him at that second. Did he fall asleep, become distracted, or did his health affect his actions? Such inexplicable traffic accidents are also present today. Therefore, we analyze each accident with the deceased comprehensively. An interdepartmental commission has been created, which includes investigators, road balance holders and prosecutors. We comprehensively analyze what caused the accident, and take certain measures. This can be, for example, a change in the organization of traffic in that area.
Viktor Rotchenkov gave data on how many people died on the roads last year:
In 2025, 426 road users died in an accident. Compared to the early 2000s, this figure has decreased four times. About 1,700 road users died in Belarus.
At the same time, the head of the GU GAI MIA did not single out the regions where tragedies occur most often:
- I would not like to single out any particular region. Analyzing the dry numbers, it seems that there is some difference between the areas. But when you approach the analysis of the accident in more detail, you understand that somewhere there is a more intensive road, somewhere the circumstances were different. In the capital region, for example, in the summer, weekends, Minsk residents go out of town. Therefore, it is impossible to single out any area. Does the police have a “penalty plan”?
