New bridge, new rails and a new level of comfort: Chelyabinsk is preparing for winter

The overhaul of the overpass started in January 2025 as part of the national project “Infrastructure for Life”. The former bridge, built in 1942, no longer corresponds to modern transport loads. It was completely dismantled, and then a new structure was erected on this site.

The head of Chelyabinsk, Alexey Loshkin, noted that the opening of the bridge is of great importance for the residents of the Metallurgical District.

According to him, during the reconstruction, the contractor managed to maintain transport links: the movement of cars and public transport did not stop. The new combined bridge received three lanes to enter the area, as well as tramways. The facility is ready roadway, sidewalks, lighting and contact network for electric transport. The head of the city stressed that further work will be carried out without prejudice to the reliability of the structure and traffic safety.

The Governor of the Chelyabinsk region Alexei Teksler during the inspection of the facility said that the contractor completed the task and coped with the repair significantly ahead of schedule. He recalled that the bridge was designed for the loads of the middle of the last century, so it was necessary to build a new structure with a margin of safety for decades. Tram traffic here resumed in the summer, and now the bridge is available for cars. According to the governor, next season it will be necessary to complete certain technical measures outside the roadway and put the adjacent territory in order.

The director of Mostotryad No. 16, Igor Pechenkon, explained that one of the main conditions of work was the preservation of the movement of all types of transport. To do this, experts first built a temporary tram bridge and transferred cars to it, after which they began dismantling the old overpass. Now the new structure has car lanes and a tram line, coating, marking, barrier fences, lighting supports and a contact network. Pechenkon said that after the launch of the movement, the contractor will continue the improvement and strengthening of the cones under the bridge – these works will not require restricting travel.

In Chelyabinsk, work on updating tram tracks on Dzerzhinsky Street has ended. Reconstruction of the site between Frunze and Machine Builders streets began in the spring. This was recalled in the “Organizer of transportation of the Chelyabinsk region”.

During the repair, specialists replaced more than 3.3 kilometers of a single tram track. When laying, 25-meter rails were used. The workers welded 284 joints and mounted 12 thermal compensators. This is expected to make tram traffic smoother and reduce noise.

In addition to track management, the contractor has updated the contact network - instead of 16 outdated supports installed new metal structures.

Special attention was paid to protecting the line from flooding. At the intersection with Frunze Street, the tramway was raised above the previous level, and it was separated from the highway by a side stone. Pedestrian crossings were also restored and the surrounding area was landscaped.

On six road crossings laid asphalt and reinforced concrete slabs.

We are talking about intersections with the streets of Frunze, Pervokonnaya, Stakhanovtsev, Granitnaya and Batumi, as well as moving in the area of the house No. 24 on Dzerzhinsky.

Work began in April, for their organization had to temporarily stop tram communication with the Leninsky district. Compensation routes were organized for passengers during this period. In the summer, after the completion of the laying of rails, the movement of cars was restored, but during the day on the line remained restrictions necessary to complete the repair. They operated until the beginning of September, and the final stage of reconstruction passed without noticeable inconvenience to passengers.

At the weekly hardware meeting in the city administration, issues of temperature control in public transport, the passage of the heating season, as well as maintenance of stop complexes and storm sewerage were considered.

Climate control in buses will be digitalized. On behalf of the head of the city, Alexei Loshkin, a system of remote temperature monitoring in bus cabins was created. The need for such a solution was confirmed by the work of the chatbot Comfort Transport: passenger appeals showed that drivers do not always focus on the actual temperature inside the transport.

The new platform will allow real-time monitoring not only the microclimate in buses, but also the parameters of heating devices and air conditioners. If the indicators go beyond the established limits, the dispatcher will be able to immediately contact the driver. In addition, the system will help to quickly identify technical problems of equipment.

Alexey Loshkin noted that remote surveillance makes control more accurate: responsible services receive objective information about the situation in the salons and can take action immediately, without waiting for complaints or the results of inspections.

According to the municipal carrier "Service of traffic organization", by the end of December, the system is planned to equip the entire city park. Currently, 270 vehicles are connected to it.

At the same time, in-person inspections of carriers continue. Over the past week, experts examined 122 vehicles, recorded 15 violations and sent materials to eliminate them.

All city boiler houses operate normally. Heat enters residential buildings, social institutions and administrative buildings. The head of the city instructed to monitor the stability of heat supply throughout the heating period.

According to Alexey Loshkin, district leaders and management organizations should personally monitor these issues during the season. Appeals of citizens should be considered without delay, especially if we are talking about local heating problems in individual houses.

Also at the hardware meeting, it was said that over the past week, employees of the EVIS municipal institution repaired 22 rainfall wells. The city continues to clean storm sewers from fallen foliage: this is necessary to preserve the capacity of networks during rains.

Utilities have put in order and stop pavilions: cleaning was performed at 172 sites, 16 stops were painted, nine more are being repaired. In addition, illegal advertising was removed from 295 pillars of the road network and engineering cabinets.
