From Patient Calling to Business Analytics: How Medical AI Technologies Have Adapted to Business

How the technology of assistance to doctors has transformed into the concept of a full-fledged “office of assistants” for commercial enterprises, considered at the IV Business Conference “Digital transformation of enterprises and industries in the Republic of Belarus” on October 7, the correspondent of the agency “Minsk-Novosti”.
The experience of using digital assistants in the healthcare sector has shown that most routine processes are typical for medical institutions.
- Why should a specialist manually extract information from the working system every time, and then return the results of operations again? asked the audience the question of the head of the development department of the Belarusian scientific and practical laboratory Andrey Konyushok. In medicine, all the necessary information — the doctor, date, time of recording, address — is inside the system. It was with this understanding that we began to build smart virtual operators and clinical assistants.
In medicine, digital assistants take care of patient calls, reminders of appointments, and matching treatment protocols. However, the developers deliberately limited their functionality: the systems only help the specialist to find the necessary information or verify the purpose, but do not make final decisions.
Realizing that any enterprise has an accounting system, primary documents and many routine tasks, the team transferred the accumulated experience to the business sector. This is how the “assistance office” came to be, bringing together tools for economists, accountants, and executives.
- In the economic block, a person begins to literally talk with his data, the representative of the laboratory explained. For example, instead of searching for dozens of reports, you can simply ask in ordinary language which products generated the most revenue last month, find the right invoice or send a photo of the shelf asking what positions occupy a disproportionate place in sales.
At the end of the report, the speaker urged companies to take a critical look at their daily processes and find points for effective automation.
- A good digital transformation does not begin with the question of where else to add artificial intelligence, Konyushok concluded. It begins with a pragmatic analysis: what exactly the person in your company is doing manually today, even though these actions have long been entrusted to algorithms.
