“After 70 the right to take?”: the traffic police put an end to the question of the age of drivers

Rumors that after 70 years, you need to surrender the right, and after 75 – and completely forget about the car, go for a long time. But the traffic police decided to clarify: there is no limit in Russia. You can drive at least 85 years old, if your health allows.

Year of birth doesn't matter

There is no figure in the Russian rules that turns rights into a useless card. The medical board decides. If doctors do not find contraindications - go to health. For the elderly, they didn't come up with any additional tests: the standard procedure, and that's it.

Other countries took a different path. In Saudi Arabia, after 75 years, the rights are canceled, in Italy from 70 years are forced to go to the doctor every two years, in Spain after 65 shorten the validity of the certificate, and in Japan, the elderly take tests for memory and attention. Russia in this series is the softest. The main thing is not a passport, but health.

What do doctors watch?

First of all - vision, hearing, pressure, reactions. If they find a pathology that prevents safe driving, the information goes to the traffic police. And then the department can begin the procedure of deprivation of rights. Most often we are talking about serious problems with vision, nervous system or chronic diseases.

Vision is particularly severe. If the sharpness falls below normal, the driver is temporarily suspended. But this is not a sentence: after treatment, surgery or selected glasses, you can undergo a second examination and return the license - however, with the mark that you need to be behind the wheel with glasses.

Examples from life

This is a 66-year-old driver. Every year passes a medical examination, feels great, there are no deviations - extends the rights for another 10 years. And here's another case: a man is 45, but he was diagnosed with severe diabetes with visual complications. The information went to the traffic police, and the rights may be suspended - although it is still far from retirement.

Experience plus

It is believed that the elderly driver is dangerous on the road. But statistics say the opposite: people with more experience are less likely to get into serious accidents. They drive calmly, do not rush, calculate the situation ahead. The experience here works for safety.

Talks about limiting the age of drivers occur regularly, but there is no support. The reason is simple: it is age discrimination. Much more important is the real state of health and the ability to control the car. So Kuzbass drivers of any age should simply monitor themselves and undergo a medical examination on time. And then the road will be safe.
