Chinese researchers have found that a product based on fermented ginseng and soybeans can slow the development of obesity and favorably affect fat metabolism. The results of the work of specialists of the Heilongjiang Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine are presented in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition.
In the experiment, the scientists studied the effect of the mixture Ginseng-Douchi, made using bacteria Bacillus subtilis. For eight weeks, it was added to the diet of mice that were fed high-fat foods. In the group receiving the maximum dose, the average weight of the animals reached 35.74 grams, while in obese mice without such a supplement, the figure was 44.14 grams.
In addition to less weight gain, the researchers recorded a reduction in visceral fat and improved cholesterol and triglycerides. Also in rodents, inflammatory processes weakened, fat deposits in the liver decreased and the protective function of the intestines improved.
The scientists found that the fermented mixture contributed to an increase in the number of bifidobacteria in the intestine and the restoration of the protein UCP1 associated with energy expenditure. The authors consider the results promising for the development of new approaches to obesity prevention, but the effectiveness of the product in humans has yet to be confirmed.
