Russian NHL star decides to save driving license in Canada
Ivan Demidov was twice caught speeding more than 40 km / h. He decided to challenge the second penalty to retain his rights

The best scorer among the newcomers to the NHL last season, the Russian forward “Montreal Canadiens” Ivan Demidov asked the court to withdraw his admission of guilt in violation of the speed limit to avoid deprivation of rights in Canada, writes The Montreal Gazzette with reference to the Journal de Montréal.
The hockey player was twice caught on highways for exceeding the permitted speed by more than 40 km / h. In February, he was driving at a speed of 145 km / h with a limit of 100 km / h, after which he paid a fine and received three penalty points, and in the summer he was stopped for driving at a speed of 111 km / h with a limit of 70 km / h. He paid the fine via the internet, in effect pleading guilty.
In the province of Quebec, drivers with temporary rights can receive no more than four penalty points.
A lawyer for the hockey player last week asked the court to annul Demidov’s guilty plea so that he could challenge a second fine (and three more penalty points) in a Montreal municipal court.
Forward said that from a conversation with the police realized that the payment of the receipt will not entail the threat of deprivation of driver’s license. Also in his testimony, Demidov claims that he was driving at a lower speed than indicated in the protocol.
Before consideration of the case in court, Demidov can drive a car.
In early October, Demidov was out for two to four weeks due to a lower body injury.
Last season, Demidov had 62 points (19+43) in 82 regular matches. The Russian also became the most productive newcomer to the playoffs (three goals and six assists in 19 matches).
