In the west of Germany, a man was detained on suspicion of involvement in several sabotages at the facilities of the country's energy system - radical ecoactivism is not excluded, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.
A 48-year-old suspect named Daniel has been wanted for about a week. He was spotted on a country road near the Weissweiler coal power plant near Aachen. The FAZ newspaper on September 8, citing police and its sources in the security forces, informed that he was a resident of Germany who did not resist. Explosive charges were found at the citizen himself and in the tent, which was found during the inspection of the area.
On this man, German law enforcement officers came out with his help. Earlier, the media received letters. Daniel took responsibility for the crimes. The messages also contained information not yet available to the public, such as technical details of sabotage against energy infrastructure. He also hinted at the motive for his actions, calling it a crime to generate electricity from fossil fuels.
After studying these confessions, the police went to the apartment of the alleged saboteur in the city of Hevelsberg (North Rhine-Westphalia) and found explosives there. She then searched his truck converted into a motorhome, finding him in a wooded area near the commune of Niderzier.
Earlier it was reported about attacks on power grid facilities in Brandenburg, Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia. To cause short circuits, the attacker made a device from pipes to launch cables on high-voltage lines using charges.
The Interior Ministry is in no hurry to draw conclusions on this case, not wanting to speculate on the topic of attacks on the power grid. They are characterized as cases of “climate terrorism”, assuming that the arrested person acted alone, but not excluding that the radical had accomplices or an ideological mastermind. The FAZ newspaper noted that in past years, German power lines and substations have already been targeted for attacks, and traces often led to extremist groups.
