According to Polish media, the accident occurred at a railway crossing near the village of Sokolniki-Sukhe. A passenger train collided with a truck, presumably a concrete mixer. Several of the six cars came off the rails, as well as the locomotive, which also overturned.
According to local law enforcement, the main impact of the truck fell on the side of the first car, that is, behind the locomotive, the front part of which has no damage characteristic of such a collision. This is confirmed by pictures from the scene where the rescue equipment and the helicopter arrived.
The crash reportedly claimed the life of a train passenger. His driver, the driver of the car and several other people traveling by rail were badly injured and hospitalized. At least four other injuries are less serious.
At the site where the accident occurred, the movement of trains was disrupted. Investigators are investigating the causes of the incident. However, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has already commented on the situation, calling for measures to prevent such cases in the future. The politician stated the need to toughen the responsibility for those who systematically enter the railway crossings, ignoring the barriers and prohibiting traffic lights.
This is not the first such incident in Poland. So, on September 3 in Gdansk, the truck did not have time to leave the railway crossing before lowering the barriers and was locked on it. Raising the barrier to get out, the driver did not. As it turned out, in vain: a passenger train at speed hit the trailer. The driver was taken to the hospital.
