Biologist Tumanova explained to Tulyaks how to get a “conflict” of vitamins in the body
In autumn, many residents of the Tula region begin to take more vitamins and supplements, hoping to strengthen the body

In autumn, many residents of the Tula region begin to take more vitamins and supplements, hoping to strengthen the body. However, some substances with simultaneous use interfere with the absorption of each other. How to properly combine microelements, told the readers of "MK in Tula" Associate Professor of the Faculty of Biology of the RSUPU named after A. I. Herzen Tatiana Tumanova.
“The absorption of nutrients is a complex process. Without a doctor's prescription, you should not take many different drugs. Substances begin to compete for the same absorption pathways in the gastrointestinal tract. For example, minerals such as iron, zinc and calcium can block the absorption of each other if taken simultaneously in high doses.
Iron and zinc compete especially markedly: they use common absorption mechanisms in the intestines. Therefore, with the simultaneous reception of large doses of one substance by tulas, less can be absorbed. Tatiana Tumanova advises to share the intake of such supplements, for example, take one in the morning and the other in the evening.
However, some substances, on the contrary, enhance the action of each other. So, vitamin C helps the body absorb non-heme iron, which is contained in plant foods. It translates it into a more accessible form.
Tulyaks should also not drink vitamins with tea or coffee. The caffeine and tannins contained in these drinks can affect the absorption of trace elements. In addition, caffeine has a diuretic effect. The biologist recommends using ordinary non-carbonated water at room temperature for taking supplements.
Separately, the expert warned against uncontrolled use of multivitamin complexes. Their effectiveness depends on the state of health and existing chronic diseases. According to Tumanova, with a confirmed deficiency of a specific substance, the targeted intake of the drug in the dosage prescribed by the doctor is more effective than a multicomponent complex.
We will remind, earlier "MK in Tula" told how much Tula cost the autumn kit of seven drugs.
In 2026, its average cost was 840 rubles in Tula and 845.9 rubles in the region. Over the year, prices increased by 8.7% and 7.6%, respectively.
