Remote employment in Tomsk: why the remote has not become a mass

According to the service, only 24% of Tomsk companies reported the presence of employees in remote work. At the same time, 3% of organizations indicated that in their state there are people working from abroad, that is, we are talking about the international remote, which for most employers remains an exception rather than a practice.

Even where the remote format is used, it covers a small proportion of staff. In 73% of companies, less than 10% of employees work remotely. Another 10% of employers said that 10% of the state is remote. Thus, in the vast majority of organizations, distance employment is point-based and has not become a systematic model of work.

Distribution by industry shows the expected picture: most often IT specialists work at a remote location – this format is practiced by 52% of companies. This is more than three times the rate of any other industry and confirms that information technology remains the main driver of distance employment. This is followed by management, recruitment and personnel by a significant margin of 17%. Accounting and finance, as well as sales and customer service scored 11 percent each. Call center operators and engineers work remotely in 10% of companies, marketing and advertising in 9%, document management in 8%.

The figures paint a picture of restrained rather than mass distribution of remote in Tomsk business. Nearly three-quarters of companies have remote employees within a tenth of their staff, and one in four organizations have no remote workers at all. IT leadership is understandable: the nature of the tasks allows you to transfer specialists to a remote format without loss of quality, while in production, financial and customer functions such flexibility is limited. The figure of 3% of companies with employees abroad further indicates that international remoteness has not yet become a noticeable phenomenon even for those organizations that are ready to work with remote personnel.
