The habit of falling asleep to the muttering of the TV or with a glass of wine seems harmless, but in fact it deprives the body of proper rest. Especially suffer from this residents of large cities, where work and life often take precious hours of sleep. Professor Alexey Bereznikov from the University of Rosbiotech in an interview with Life.ru analyzed popular mistakes and explained how to establish a night rest.
The main problem of modern man is the desire to take time from sleep for business. People stay up late, gradually getting used to chronic sleep deprivation. In megacities, this has become the norm. According to experts, the average person sleeps only 6-7 hours. This is catastrophically small for the recovery of the brain and body. In the long term, such a regime threatens obesity, diabetes, heart disease and constant stress.
The second mistake is late sleep. Scientists believe that the ideal time to fall asleep is from 22:00 to 23:00. In the dark, the body actively produces melatonin, the sleep hormone. If you sleep during the day or with the light on, the production of this substance falls, and the rest is inferior.
Many try to speed up falling asleep with the help of alcohol or background TV noise. Bereznikov warned: alcohol relaxes only in tiny doses. Large doses cause either drowsiness or, conversely, overexcitation. And even if a person falls asleep quickly, the quality of rest will be low. Alcohol before bed is a direct harm to health.
Television and radio create an illusion of calm. Voices really tire the nervous system, and a person falls asleep. But the brain doesn't rest. The doctor advises to prepare for bed in advance and read a regular paper book. It is better to turn off the audio recordings before you fall asleep.
