Pomorie education system is set up for the tasks of technological leadership

The Arkhangelsk region sets a task for the general education system to increase the number of children choosing in-depth study of mathematical and natural science disciplines and then linking further education with them.

By the decree of the President of Russia, technological leadership is defined as one of the national development goals of the country until 2030 and for the future until 2036. For the school, this means a very specific request – to prepare young people who are able to continue their education in engineering, natural science and IT areas.

- Positive dynamics is already there, said Deputy Prime Minister of the Arkhangelsk region Ivan Dementyev. In 2026, 2537 graduates chose the exam in profile mathematics in the Arkhangelsk region, 1078 in physics, 1048 in biology, 693 in chemistry. The proportion of graduates who chose the appropriate exams is gradually increasing. We all need to understand that the path to technological leadership does not begin in a design office or on an industrial site – it begins with a school lesson in mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science.

A network of specialized pre-professional classes is actively developing in the region. Today there are 150 such classes, in which 2950 students study. Of these, 83 classes have an engineering focus – IT, construction, forestry, road, space or agrotechnological. There are also medical and psychological-pedagogical classes.

The task of the region is to build a real partnership between a school, college or university and an employer around such classes.

- Technological leadership cannot be achieved by an administrative decision in one year. Today’s engineer begins with a child who is interested in solving complex problems, experimenting, programming, assembling a device with his own hands. Therefore, our task is to create an educational environment in which interest in the exact and natural sciences turns into a conscious professional choice, emphasized Yevgeny Melyokhin, Minister of Education of the Arkhangelsk Region.

By 2027, in the Arkhangelsk region, it is planned to increase the share of graduates choosing the exam in specialized mathematics and natural science subjects to 35%, and by 2030 - to 40%. At the same time, the share of schoolchildren studying mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology will increase. For the 2026/27 academic year, the benchmark is 27%, and by the 2029/30 academic year - 65%.

This is not a formal increase in the number of profile classes. Their result should be a conscious transition of the graduate to the next stage - to the engineering college, technical or natural-scientific university, and in the future - to the enterprises of the Arkhangelsk region, the minister stressed.
