Stavropol Nutriciologist: rosehip is a natural superfood, but with reservations

Autumn is the traditional time of vitamin drinks. We understand together with an expert from Stavropol, what is useful rosehip and to whom it is contraindicated.

Rosehip has long been considered one of the most popular means of traditional medicine. And not by chance: the high concentration of vitamins and antioxidants makes it a real natural superfood. However, as reminds Stavropol nutriciologist Irina Gamazina, because of the active acids and tannins to use it with caution.

Natural superfood: how rosehip will help health

Rosehip strengthens immunity: the fruits contain a record amount of vitamin C - twice as much as currants, and this reserve helps the body fight viruses and inflammation. It also supports the heart with blood vessels - potassium, magnesium and antioxidants improve blood circulation and strengthen the walls of blood vessels. Improves rosehip and metabolism: the infusion stimulates metabolism and helps normalize cholesterol levels.

Thanks to the iron in the composition, it supports hematopoiesis - the processes of hemoglobin formation. Rosehip is especially effective for SARS, colds and flu: vitamin C suppresses the development of pathogenic bacteria and viruses. A drink from the fruits well thins sputum, helps to treat a runny nose and cough, relieves aches in the joints. And oil from rosehip seeds is useful for prophylactic inhalations: the nutritionist recommends holding them every two weeks for the rehabilitation of the bronchopulmonary tree and nasal cavity.

Who is contraindicated with rosehip

The rosehip also has contraindications. Organic acids and a high dose of vitamin C irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, causing spasms or heartburn, so the drink is contraindicated in gastritis with high acidity and ulcers.

Increases rosehip and blood clotting, which is dangerous for thrombosis, thrombophlebitis and a tendency to form blood clots. Because of the choleretic effect, it is not recommended for gallstone disease and severe kidney pathologies. Acids also destroy tooth enamel, so after drinking the infusion, it is better to rinse your mouth with water or drink through a tube.

A separate warning is for parents: you can not give rose hips and decoctions from it to children under 2 years old. “The rosehip has many active trace elements and substances that can cause an allergic reaction, affect the mucosa and other organs,” emphasizes Irina Gamazina.

How to brew and how much to drink

To preserve vitamin C, do not boil the berries for a long time on a high heat - it is better to use a thermos or languish on a slow heat for 15-20 minutes.

Do not drink a strong infusion every day in large volumes: it is optimal to do courses or drink one cup a day during the cold season. Like any other drug, rosehip requires a reasonable approach - especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The high content of vitamin C can provoke an allergic reaction, so it is necessary to add fruits, leaves, extracts and juices of the plant to the diet with caution and after consulting a doctor.

Earlier it was reported that plum is not just a fruit.
