On the International Cook’s Day, which is celebrated on October 20, the management of Rospotrebnadzor in the Tula region told how not to catch an acute intestinal infection in the kitchen.
According to the department, you can get infected in three ways: through food, dirty hands and dishes, as well as water.
So, poultry meat can be infected with salmonella, vegetables and fruits - viruses and dysentery bacillus, cream products - staphylococcus, seafood - enteroviruses and hepatitis A virus. E. coli often remains on the sink, tables, boards, sponges, towels, trash can and kitchen appliances.
To protect yourself, the department advises checking the expiration dates of products, washing your hands before and during cooking, using separate boards for raw and ready, regularly washing the refrigerator and storing products on different shelves, changing sponges once a week, washing towels and avoiding flies and cockroaches in the kitchen.
Earlier, MK in Tula reported that for nine months of 2026, Rospotrebnadzor checked 6,641 samples of products in the Tula region - 5.4% of samples in microbiology did not meet the standards. Most often violations were found in fish and seafood.
