Scientists have found a protein that can reduce the risks of obesity and slow aging
Vegetable protein intake may be linked to slower biological aging and muscle maintenance

Eating plant-based protein may be associated with slower biological aging and retention of muscle mass. This conclusion was made by Chinese researchers who studied the effect of nutrition on human health. The study was published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition.
Experts analyzed data on more than 15 thousand inhabitants of China, the UK and the United States. Particular attention was paid to sarcophenic obesity - a condition in which the accumulation of excess fat is accompanied by a decrease in muscle mass and strength. It turned out that people who received more protein from plant products, the likelihood of such a disorder was about 14% lower.
An even more noticeable relationship was found when a partial replacement of animal protein with plant protein. If this replacement accounted for 5% of the daily calorie intake, the risk of sarcophenic obesity was lower by 34%. In addition, a high intake of plant protein corresponded to a decrease in the estimated biological age by 0.81–0.88 years.
The most pronounced association was observed in participants with excess abdominal fat. At the same time, researchers did not find a similar stable pattern for animal protein. The authors suggest that plant-based protein sources may contribute to muscle preservation and healthy aging, but emphasize the need for further research to confirm causality.
