Minsk metro introduces intelligent technologies for passengers and drivers – Andrei Drob
Auto science, platform doors and adaptive lighting: what smart technologies are already working in the Minsk metro and how do they improve passenger safety?

Minsk metro introduces automation and intelligent monitoring systems that help drivers and improve passenger safety. On the air of the program “People’s GOST” said the official representative of the Minsk metro Andrey Drob.
According to him, modern technologies are used especially actively on the third line, opened in 2020 and extended at the end of 2024. It is here that new innovative trains run, equipped with a second level auto-driving system.
Automation helps the driver
The system independently performs a number of operations during movement: the train accelerates, brakes in front of the desired station and stops in the desired place.
“The train itself accelerates, it brakes at the right station, at the right time opens the doors in front of the automatic station doors, which are located on the platforms,” Andrei Drob explained.
According to him, such a system reduces the load on the driver, but does not exclude his participation in the management of the train and control over traffic safety.
Platform doors protect passengers
At the stations of the third line, passenger protection barriers are installed – platform doors that open simultaneously with the train doors. They prevent people and foreign objects from falling in the way.
“In all that time, for almost six years, not a single passenger got in the way, not a single object actually got in the way. That is, high safety of life and health of our passengers has been achieved, the representative of the metro noted.
Lighting adjusts to the rhythm of the person
Modern trains are equipped not only with automation systems, but also with solutions aimed at improving the comfort of passengers. In particular, the lighting in the cars varies depending on the time of day.
“In the morning lighting is one, in the daytime another, in the evening the third. It adapts to the rhythm of a person, said Andrei Drob.
The new trains run on the third line, and are also partially used on the Avtozavodsk line.
Metro ready for emergency n
Most of the equipment that supports the operation of intelligent systems is not in passenger areas, but in office spaces. It is responsible for traffic management, infrastructure control and security.
The subway also provides solutions for emergency situations. For example, if necessary, passengers can leave the train in the tunnel and go to the platform on a special route. However, as Andrei Drob noted, such a scenario is only used in extreme cases.
“In the event of an emergency in the tunnel, a special route is provided for passengers to get out and pass to the platform. But that's only in extreme situations. Thank God, there were no such cases in the Minsk metro, he said.
