In the Moscow region continues a large-scale program for the early detection of genetic pathologies in newborns. According to the press service of the regional Ministry of Health, since January this year, more than 46.7 thousand babies have undergone free examination. Thanks to rapid diagnosis in 90 cases, doctors confirmed the presence of hereditary diseases, which allowed families to start the necessary treatment in time.
Neonatal screening is a critical stage of medical support of the child in the first days of life. The main goal of the procedure is to detect the threat before the first clinical symptoms appear. This gives doctors a “head start” in time, allowing to prevent serious consequences and disability.

The procedure is as simple and safe as possible for the baby: a few drops of blood from the heel are taken for analysis from the child. If laboratory tests show deviations from the norm, a specialized specialist promptly contacts the parents. The doctor not only informs about the result, but also explains the algorithm for further actions, directing the family to confirm the diagnosis and the right specialists.
