Volgograd residents told about the situation with prices for red caviar
The increase in value was associated with weak salmon catch, but now the dynamics have leveled off. According to the head of Rosrybolovstvo Ilya Shestakov, caviar shortage is not expected by the New Year holidays.

During the conversation on the sidelines of the Verona Eurasian Economic Forum in Istanbul (Interfax reports), the head of the department stressed that a significant part of the products, including supplies from the state company DRUK, are focused on the domestic market. This will ensure demand. At the same time, Shestakov allowed only a possible short-term increase in prices closer to the New Year - due to seasonal conditions, but a significant rise in price, according to him, is not expected.
The main reason for the low catch volumes, the head of Rosrybolovstvo called climate change – in particular, a noticeable warming of water. There is no clear forecast for salmon production for 2027 yet: more specific estimates will appear in the spring, Shestakov said.
The statistics clearly reflect the scale of the decline in volumes: salmon catch in 2026 decreased to about 100 thousand tons – this is significantly lower than in 2025 (335 thousand tons) and 2024 (235 thousand tons). For comparison: the record remains the result of 2018 – 676 thousand tons. Production of red caviar this year is estimated at 5.2 thousand tons, while in 2025 it reached 12 thousand tons.
