Volgograd residents noticed a rise in prices for herring and potatoes before the New Year
We are talking primarily about weakly salted herring and potatoes, which are the key ingredients of the popular festive dish "Herrings under a fur coat"

According to the observations of Volgograd residents, prices for these goods have increased significantly. Packaging herring in oil weighing 400 grams in some supermarkets now costs about 200 rubles, and this is already taking into account discounts. The cost of a kilogram of potatoes in retail stores on average reached 46 rubles, and in the markets the price varies from 50 to 60 rubles.
Experts attribute this local jump to several factors. Doctor of Economics, Professor Vladimir Kurchenkov explained that such a situation does not reflect all-Russian statistics and is not a reason for panic.
“We live in conditions of inflation, prices grow unevenly for products: quarters and months,” the expert said. The overall level of inflation consists of different groups of goods: some can grow by 13%, others – all year round do not grow. There should not be a general trend for one type of product.”.
According to the professor, the current increase in fish prices is likely due to logistical difficulties. Herring is mined in the Far East, where fuel problems are observed, which complicates and makes delivery more expensive. An additional factor is seasonal, rushing demand before the holidays, when many residents buy products for the future.
As for potatoes, its price is subject to standard seasonal fluctuations. By the end of the year, stocks of the old crop are coming to an end, while demand increases due to active harvesting of vegetables for the winter.
The expert stressed that he does not predict a further sharp rise in prices. According to him, such spikes are temporary, and after them the cost of goods can stabilize or even slightly decrease.
“The market is a living organism,” Vladimir Kurchenkov summed up.
