For the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, it is important to eat right, exercise regularly, and control weight. This was told to journalists on September 7 by the head of the Department of Preventive Cardiology of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Cardiology", Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Natalia Shibeko, the correspondent of the agency "Minsk-Novosti".

According to the expert, to protect the heart and blood vessels, there are no strict restrictions on specific foods, but the diet should be balanced.
“The body needs to receive a sufficient amount of proteins and complex carbohydrates,” Shibeko noted. At the same time, it is important to minimize the consumption of foods high in animal fats, smoked and overly salty dishes. As for the drinking regime, the popular recommendation to drink at least 2 liters of water per day is often misinterpreted. The total daily volume of liquid includes absolutely everything: pure water, tea, coffee, as well as liquid food, vegetables and fruits. Calculate this norm should be correctly so as not to overload the cardiovascular system.
Also, the cardiologist said that the heart and blood vessels need a dosed aerobic load.
- Physical activity is not necessarily heavy strength training, yoga or Pilates in the gym, said Shibeko. The heart needs dynamic movement. The best option is metered walking (about 5 km per day at a pace of 90 steps per minute), cycling, swimming or a combination of these loads. It is enough to devote motor activity at least 30 minutes daily.
Speaking about weight control, the doctor drew attention to the fact that in Belarus, as well as around the world, there is a tendency to increase weight in the population.
- From the point of view of cardiology, overweight is the main factor aggravating the course of diseases of the circulatory system, explained N. Shibeko. An integrated approach helps to effectively combat it: a combination of regular dynamic loads and a balanced diet.
