How Much Coffee Can You Drink Per Day Without Harm?

While some are trying to completely eliminate coffee from the diet, doctors recommend it as a medicine for the liver. Russian gastroenterologist Sergey Vyalov claims: the drink really reduces the risk of fibrosis and protects blood vessels, but the whole secret lies in the exact dose. How much caffeine protects the liver and heart, and what dose will not do the body any good?

Is it true that coffee improves liver health? According to Sergey Vyalov, regular consumption of caffeine protects our internal organs. At the same time, the doctor clarifies: each portion has a cumulative effect, and scientists conduct all calculations on the basis of classical espresso - the basis on which Americano and cappuccino are prepared.

- Large studies have shown that even one cup of coffee a day significantly reduces the risk of fibrosis (growth of scar tissue that destroys the organ). — Approx. ed.) and improves the condition of the liver, — explains Sergey Vyalov. Two servings of espresso are even more beneficial, and three give the maximum protective effect. From the fourth cup, there is no benefit to the body. So for liver support, it’s best to drink three espressos a day, unless you have blood pressure restrictions. By the way, in the same medical work found that coffee reduces the risk of type II diabetes and reduces the likelihood of developing melanoma. What will happen if you drink too much coffee Sergey Vyalov emphasizes: it is not caffeine itself that is dangerous, but its uncontrolled amount. As an example, the gastroenterologist cites a real case from the United States, when hunters left about 45 kilograms of chocolate and donuts in the forest. Four bears found these sweets and died from an overdose of theobromine and caffeine. In the wild, animals simply do not understand that such a treat can be poisonous, so they do not feel danger and cannot stop in time.

This case clearly proves that even a familiar product can harm if you completely ignore its safe norm.

- In general, any products are demonized in vain, because it is necessary to evaluate not the food itself, but its quantity, concludes Sergey Vyalov. It is easier for us to completely ban a dish than to calculate a reasonable measure. Our brain is designed so that it is easier to divide everything into “black” and “white”, but we do not know how to perceive halftones and gradations.

Important: caffeine has contraindications, especially with problems with blood pressure, heart rhythm disorders or gastrointestinal diseases in the acute stage. Before changing your diet, be sure to consult your doctor.
