The postponement of the beginning of classes in schools should take into account the psychophysiological characteristics of children, and not only administrative norms. About this "RG" told the leading researcher of the Institute of education, teacher-psychologist Elena Loseva.
The reason was the initiative of the Public Chamber to move the beginning of school classes to 9:00. Now in most schools, lessons begin at 8:30, but in some places the first bell sounds at 8:15 and 9:00. Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov has already explained that classes cannot begin before 8:00 and end after 19:00 if there is a second shift.
According to Loseva, the performance of students is unstable during the day and week. At the beginning of the school day there is a so-called "workout" - a period when the body is just adjusting to study, so the schedule should not be overloaded with complex subjects from the very morning. The optimal performance of the child falls on the second or third lessons, and the fourth begins a decline in activity.
Weekly dynamics are also important, the expert notes: peak productivity usually falls on Tuesday and Wednesday, Monday is the day of adaptation after the weekend, and fatigue increases by Friday. “A comfortable schedule should take into account this dynamic, reducing the load at the beginning and end of the week,” she said.
She added that chronic fatigue and lack of recovery time lead not only to a decrease in academic performance, but also to anxiety, stress and even depressive states. Therefore, the schedule, built on the dynamics of performance, is an important condition for maintaining the psychological and physical health of the child. These provisions are enshrined in the requirements of Rospotrebnadzor and relate, among other things, to the beginning of the school day.
